Experience the Retreat

This is four days in the heart of Tehri Garhwal, with Rishikesh as the gateway to a land where the Ganges runs with real power, Himalayan forest echoes with birdsong and old traditions are still woven through ordinary life. The balance through the retreat runs between exhilaration and tranquillity.

Day one opens at lunchtime with a cottage overlooking the river, then kayaking from the white sand beach in the afternoon, an hour of guided yoga and meditation beside the water, and a private Ganga Aarti at sunset. Guests who want it can take a sacred dip, with life jackets and guides on hand.

Day two starts with yoga on the Green Deck and moves to a 24 km rafting expedition from Marine Drive to NM Beach, running roughly fourteen rapids including Three Blind Mice, Black Money and Roller Coaster. Grade III water alternates with calm stretches for floating and body surfing.
The afternoon turns towards recovery with a 60 minute spa treatment, chosen from Balinese, deep tissue, traditional Swedish or aroma massage. Evenings bring snacks around the bonfire at the White Water Cafe before dinner.

Day three is the cultural day. Yoga by the pool, then a drive to Vashishta Gufa, the riverside meditation cave associated with Sage Vashishta, followed by a guided half day tour of Rishikesh taking in the two suspension bridges and closing with the Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat.

The last morning is yoga on the beach with the river running past, breakfast, and departure at 10:00 AM. What guests take home is the combination, since adventure on its own rarely leaves anyone this settled.

Why This Retreat Stands Out

Few retreats put genuine adventure and genuine quiet in the same four days. You raft 24 km of Grade III water in the morning and sit for a private Ganga Aarti by the river in the evening, and both feel like they belong to the same trip.

The setting does a great deal of that work. Five acres of hillside with no neighbouring property, a private white sand beach, a yoga deck over the valley and cottages with no televisions in them, so unplugging happens whether or not you planned on it.

Atali Ganga

Five acres of pristine hillside above the Ganges at Milestone 30 on Badrinath Road, holding twenty two compact stone cottages built to blend into the forest around them. A spa and sauna, yoga shala, swimming pool, gardens and decks, high and low ropes, mountain biking trails and a private river beach fill the rest.
The name Atali comes from Aqua Terra Alternative Lifestyle Initiative, and the site runs zero effluent and zero discharge, with all waste treated on the premises and reused as manure and irrigation. Televisions are left out of the cottages on purpose.

INDIA

The retreat sits at Milestone 30 on Badrinath Road in the foothills of Tehri Garhwal, on five acres of hillside above the Ganges with forest on every side and no neighbours. A every direction. It is India's First Activotel by the Ganges.

Some cottages look out towards Ma Ganga; others open onto the surrounding hills. There is no room service, no TVs, and no golf carts waiting to drive you up the hill. This hillside asks you to use your legs to get anywhere worth going. Stay active or not — that’s your call. Either way, every cottage sits across the slope above the Ganges, creating its own private, unhurried corner of the hillside.

In the evening, we take you down to a beautiful riverside beach, just a two-minute drive from the retreat, followed by an eight-minute walk through a beautiful forest track. Here, you can kayak, practise yoga, meditate, or simply sit by the river and let the calm of Ma Ganga take over. No agenda, no hurry — just the river, the forest and time to yourself.

Rishikesh is about an hour away, and no trip here is quite complete without experiencing it. The Lakshman Jhula and Ram Jhula suspension bridges, the riverside lanes, the Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat, and the ancient meditation cave at Vashishta Gufa are all within reach of an afternoon.

Travel Information

flight

Jolly Grant Airport at Dehradun is the nearest and the most convenient way in, particularly for guests coming from outside Delhi. SpiceJet, IndiGo, Vistara and Air India all operate regular flights from Delhi, with connections from every major Indian city.

From the airport the drive takes about two hours along the river road. A private airport transfer can be arranged by the property if it is requested at the time of booking, though it carries an additional charge and is not part of the package.

train

Haridwar Railway Station is the nearest railhead, and Atali Ganga is about two hours and thirty minutes away by road. It is well connected with Delhi and the rest of northern India, and the morning Dehradun Shatabdi from Delhi is a fast and comfortable option.

Transfers from Haridwar Railway Station can be arranged on request at the time of booking, with charges applying. Booking the car ahead matters here, since the last stretch runs up Badrinath Road beyond Rishikesh.

bus

By Bus
Buses and electric buses run regularly from Delhi to Nepali Farm, the junction between Haridwar and Rishikesh. Both government and private operators run services, with the journey from Delhi taking approximately 7 hours, depending on traffic.

From Nepali Farm to Atali Ganga -Atali Ganga is approximately 40 km from Nepali Farm. From Nepali Farm, guests can continue by a pre-arranged local taxi towards Rishikesh and then along the Badrinath Road. Atali Ganga is located at Milestone 30, approximately 30 km beyond Rishikesh.

The drive from Nepali Farm to Atali generally takes around 1½ to 2 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. From Shivpuri, Atali is approximately 25 minutes further up the Badrinath Road.

Guests arriving with luggage after a long bus journey usually find a pre-arranged car considerably easier than piecing together the last leg of the journey on arrival.Watch our journey at

taxi

A pre-booked taxi is the simplest and most comfortable way to reach Atali Ganga from Dehradun, Haridwar or Delhi. The property can arrange a paid transfer from Jolly Grant Airport or the railway station if requested at the time of booking.

Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun: approximately 1½ hours
Haridwar Railway Station: approximately 2 hours

Give your driver the full address: Atali Ganga, Milestone 30, Badrinath Road, Rishikesh, Uttarakhand 249192. The property is set above the road on a forested hillside, so there are few nearby landmarks or neighbouring properties.

After Rishikesh, the road continues uphill along the Badrinath Road. A pre-arranged car is strongly recommended, particularly if you are arriving with luggage, as the final stretch is not somewhere you want to be figuring out transport on arrival.

car

By Car from Delhi

From Delhi, the drive to Atali Ganga takes approximately 6–7 hours, including a short breakfast stop. An early start between 4:00 and 5:00 AM is recommended, as traffic can build later in the morning around Modinagar, Muzaffarnagar and Roorkee, adding considerably to the journey time.

The route takes you towards Haridwar and Rishikesh, before continuing along the Badrinath Road to Milestone 30, where Atali Ganga is located.

Free parking is available on the property, making self-drive a convenient option for guests travelling from Delhi and the surrounding areas.

FAQ's

No. The 24 km expedition runs Grade III rapids with experienced river guides, and safety gear, life jackets, helmets and a full safety briefing are provided. Calm stretches between the rapids give time to float and take in the valley.

No. Two guided sessions run across the four days, taught with a calm and encouraging approach and adapted to the people in the group. Yoga mats are included, so there is nothing to bring.

Cottage accommodation, all buffet meals as listed, daily tea and coffee, pre-dinner snacks, four yoga sessions, one kayaking session, the 24 km rafting expedition with transfers, a 60 minute spa treatment, the private Ganga Aarti, the Vashishta Gufa visit, the half day Rishikesh cultural tour with a guide and vehicles, and Wi-Fi.

Airport transfers on arrival and departure, international flights, travel and health insurance, bottled water and aerated drinks, tips, laundry, extra nights, personal expenses and anything not listed in the itinerary. Transfers and extra nights can be arranged at additional charge.

Let the team know at the time of booking about any health condition among the guests, including expecting mothers, heart patients and asthmatics, who must carry an inhaler. The adventure elements can then be planned around it safely.

Our Hillside Setting

Atali Ganga is a hillside, stepped property with no golf carts. Getting around means walking and climbing steps, so guests should be comfortable being on their feet. The property is not wheelchair accessible.

Our independent stone cottages are approximately 250 sq. ft., each with a private 85 sq. ft. patio or balcony and panoramic views across three sides. They are spread across five acres of forested hillside above the Ganges.

There are no televisions and no room service — both are deliberate choices. Atali is about getting outdoors, moving around and being part of the landscape rather than staying indoors.

The first set of cottages is approximately 50–60 steps from the lobby and White Water Café. The higher up your cottage is on the hillside, the more steps you will need to climb. It is part of the Atali experience — and exactly why comfortable walking shoes are a good idea.

For the river, quick drying shorts and dry fit shirts, strap sandals or water shoes, sunglasses with a strap, sunscreen and personal medication. Also useful are hiking shoes, a swimsuit, a waterproof jacket, a camera and warm clothes, since evenings from November to January are cold.

Yes. Children below six years are complimentary on the existing bed, and the cottages carry a hide-away bed that suits one child. Extra bed charges should be confirmed with the property directly.

Complimentary Wi-Fi runs throughout the property. Televisions are deliberately left out of the cottages, so guests spend their time on the river, the trails and the decks instead.

It runs as a zero effluent and zero discharge site, treating all waste on the premises and reusing the by-products as organic manure and irrigation. Plastic bottles and single-use packaging have been eliminated, and all planting is of indigenous species.
