A trekking retreat needs the ability to walk 6 to 8 hours over uneven ground on consecutive days while carrying a 5 kilogram daypack. Most operators grade routes easy, moderate or strenuous. Altitude above 3,000 metres raises the demand sharply.

Trekking retreat rates normally cover guiding, permits, accommodation on and off the trail, all meals on walking days and porter support for main luggage. Personal gear, insurance and travel to the trailhead are extra. Group sizes run 6 to 12.
