Experience the Retreat

The 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training is a comprehensive residential course structured across four weeks in Palissery, Himachal Pradesh. Each week is layered on the last, beginning with the foundations of yoga philosophy and basic asanas, then moving into advanced postures, pranayama, meditation and the ethics of teaching.

By the final week you are working through advanced practice, looking at the business side of yoga, and completing assessments before the graduation ceremony. The daily schedule follows a consistent rhythm that supports both the learning and your own discipline.

Mornings open with yoga practice covering asanas, pranayama and meditation. Lecture and study sessions on philosophy, anatomy and teaching methodology fill the late morning and afternoon, evenings turn to restorative or yin yoga, and the day winds down with optional group activities such as chanting, satsang or a film.

Anatomy and physiology have a dedicated place in the curriculum, covering the musculoskeletal and nervous systems as they relate to yoga, along with an introduction to the subtle body, the chakras and the nadis. You also get practical training in cueing, hands on adjustments, the use of props and class sequencing, with peer feedback built into the weeks.

The course draws on foundational texts including the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the Bhagavad Gita, which gives you philosophical grounding alongside the physical training. Self reflection, journaling and group discussion are woven through the schedule to help it settle.

Trekking is available for anyone who wants to explore the Himalayan terrain around the centre during their time here. A final exam and a graduation ceremony close the programme.

Why This Retreat Stands Out

What sets this course apart is the balance it strikes between depth and practicality. The four week structure is paced on purpose, so you have time to absorb the philosophy, refine your asana practice and genuinely teach rather than only watch.

The Himachal setting adds a level of focus that is hard to find anywhere near a city, and each week builds meaningfully on the one before, moving from foundational concepts into advanced practice and then into real teaching experience. Regular peer feedback and guided self reflection run throughout, which keeps the learning grounded and honest.

INDIA

Pulga is a quiet village tucked into the Parvati Valley of Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, at 2,200 metres above sea level. Dense pine and oak forest flanks the valley, snow dusted peaks stand above it and the Parvati River runs below, and the air is crisp enough that the nights fill with stars.

The centre sits in Palissery, a clearing beside the village, ringed by apple orchards and terraced farms belonging to the local community. Kheer Ganga, Tosh, the Manikaran Sahib Gurudwara, the cafes of Kasol and the old self governed village of Malana are all within trekking or driving distance.

Travel Information

flight

The most convenient airport for reaching Pulga is Bhuntar Airport (KUU) at Kullu Manali in Himachal Pradesh, which has direct flights from both Delhi and Chandigarh.
From Bhuntar it is roughly a 2.5 to 3 hour drive to Kasol, then onward travel to Barshaini, which is the last motorable point, and a walk of 1 to 2 km from there to reach the centre.
International travellers can use Chandigarh International Airport (IXC) as a reliable alternative, roughly 8 to 9 hours away by road. Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in New Delhi is the main international hub, well connected to both Bhuntar and Chandigarh by domestic flights.

train

The nearest broad gauge railway station is Pathankot Junction, from where buses and taxis are available onward to Bhuntar or to Kasol.
Chandigarh Railway Station is another well connected option, and a popular base for the onward road journey into Parvati Valley. From either station, the road journey to Kasol takes roughly 6 to 9 hours.
From Kasol, hire a local taxi or a shared vehicle to Barshaini, then continue on foot to the centre.

bus

Himachal Road Transport Corporation runs regular services from Delhi at ISBT Kashmiri Gate and from Chandigarh to Bhuntar and Kasol.
The overnight Delhi to Kasol bus takes roughly 12 to 14 hours and is a popular, cost effective way into the valley.
From Kasol, local buses and shared cabs run towards Barshaini during daylight hours. Barshaini is the last point reachable by road, and from there the centre is a 1 to 2 km walk along the Fairy Forest trail.

taxi

Taxis run from Bhuntar Airport, from Kasol and from Chandigarh to Barshaini, which makes this the most comfortable option for anyone travelling with luggage.
Shared taxis from Kasol to Barshaini run regularly through the day, and private cabs can be pre booked in advance for a more direct trip. From Barshaini it is a 1 to 2 km walk to the centre.
Book your arrival taxi ahead of the day, particularly if you are landing at Bhuntar in the afternoon, as only limited cabs work the valley roads after dark.

car

Driving to Pulga is a scenic trip for anyone who enjoys mountain roads. The most common route runs Delhi to Chandigarh on NH44, then onward through Bilaspur, Mandi and Bhuntar, arriving at Kasol and Barshaini.
The full drive from Delhi covers roughly 500 to 520 km and takes 12 to 14 hours. From Chandigarh the drive is around 8 to 9 hours.
Vehicles cannot go beyond Barshaini, so the last stretch to the centre is on foot. The mountain roads past Kasol are narrow with steep switchbacks, and a four wheel drive is recommended, especially during or after rain.

FAQ's

No prior teaching experience is needed. The course is built for practitioners with a personal yoga practice who want the knowledge and the skills to teach others. You do not need to have taught a class before.

A typical day opens with a morning session of asanas, pranayama and meditation, then lectures on philosophy, anatomy and teaching methodology. Afternoons carry on with study sessions, and evenings bring restorative practice. Group activities such as chanting or satsang may follow dinner.

Yes. The curriculum draws directly on classical texts including the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the Bhagavad Gita. You study the historical context of yoga, its philosophical foundations, and how both shape a modern teaching practice.

There is daily physical practice, asanas and pranayama, from 6:00 AM each morning. The schedule is structured and consistent, so it asks for a reasonable level of fitness and real commitment. Rest periods are built into the day, but the pace is active and disciplined.

Teaching methodology runs through all four weeks. You learn cueing, hands on adjustments, prop usage and class sequencing, then apply them in practical teaching sessions. Peer feedback is built into the schedule, so there are regular chances to refine your approach before graduation.

The local currency is the Indian Rupee (INR). The nearest ATMs are in Kasol, around 25 km from the centre. Carry enough cash before you head into the valley, as ATM access beyond Kasol is very limited.

The Kheer Ganga hot springs trek, day walks to Tosh village and a visit to Manikaran Sahib Gurudwara are all worth the time. Kasol is a short drive away for cafes, markets and river walks, and Malana village makes a fascinating cultural detour.

Layers, as temperatures drop sharply after sunset even in the warmer months. Sturdy walking shoes, a light rain jacket, a reusable water bottle and a personal first aid kit are all recommended. Pack light, because the final stretch to the centre is on foot and uphill.

The programme is designed to be accessible, though a basic level of fitness helps, given the altitude and the walk in to the centre. Anyone with respiratory, cardiovascular or joint related conditions should speak to their doctor before travelling to high altitude.

Pulga sits at 2,200 metres. Staying well hydrated and going easy on arrival day helps most guests acclimatise comfortably. The walk in from Barshaini runs 1 to 2 km along a forest trail and is manageable at a relaxed pace with light luggage.

Further Details About the Retreat

The centre sits in Pulga, and Pulga is a walking village. There is no road to the door, so cars are left at the parking area and the last part of the journey is made on foot.
From the parking, allow 30 to 40 minutes to reach the centre. It is more of a trek than a stroll. The path climbs steadily, the trail is narrow and uneven in places, and there are exposed stretches with steep drops beside them.
Walk it in daylight, wear proper shoes with grip, and travel with luggage you can carry comfortably on your back. In rain or snow the trail turns slippery and needs more care.
Most guests count the walk in as one of the best parts of arriving. You come through forest, with the valley opening up around you, and by the time Ameya Himalayan Yogis comes into view the noise of the road is well behind you.
