Experience the Retreat

Philosophy classes and practical yoga run side by side, so the ideas stay connected to what your body is doing. Expect roughly five to six hours a day of study and practice together. The curriculum covers the Bhagavad Gita, the Patanjali Yoga Sutras, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and the Shat Darshanas, taking in Nyaya, Vaisheshika, Mimamsa, Vedanta, Samkhya and Yoga.
Shared accommodation, three vegetarian meals a day, reading materials, Wi-Fi, cleansing materials, tea, coffee and a participation certificate are included. One outdoor activity falls in the week, such as Kunjapuri Temple, Ganga Aarti, a waterfall, camping or an Ayurvedic massage. Classes are taught in English and Hindi, and you can start on any day, subject to availability.

Why This Retreat Stands Out

This week is for anyone who has practised a while and started wondering where the ideas come from. Philosophy is taught in two to three structured classes a day rather than in passing, so you get real time with the classical texts while Hatha Yoga, meditation and pranayama carry on.

INDIA

Mohan Chatti sits on the edge of Rishikesh in Uttarakhand, ringed by the lower Himalayan hills, forest and the wide green valley of the Ganges.Away from the busy town centre it is quiet here, yet you are still close to the temples, the adventure sports, the cafes and the markets that Rishikesh is known for.

Fresh mountain air, birdsong and long views across the hills fill the days, which is much of the reason people choose this side of town for practice and rest. The property has a fully equipped yoga studio, comfortable rooms, a rooftop, a dining area, gardens and common spaces to sit in, with Wi-Fi throughout the building.
A local market is about 300 to 400 metres away, so everyday essentials are easy to pick up without arranging transport, which helps on a longer stay. The area around you carries the natural beauty and the spiritual history that made Rishikesh one of the best known yoga destinations in the country.
In free time, guests visit Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula, Parmarth Niketan Ashram, Triveni Ghat for the evening Ganga Aarti, and Neer Garh Waterfall. There is white water rafting for anyone who wants it, along with nature walks and a string of riverside cafes to sit at in the afternoon.

The mix of mountain scenery, spiritual heritage and outdoor life suits both a short retreat and a longer training programme of several weeks. It is the sort of place where the day is shaped by practice and by the light on the hills, rather than by traffic and noise.

Travel Information

flight

Fly into Jolly Grant Airport (DED) in Dehradun, the nearest airport at about 21 km away. It has regular domestic flights from New Delhi and good connections to other major Indian cities.
International travellers usually arrive at Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in New Delhi first, then take a connecting domestic flight to Dehradun.
Taxis and private cabs wait at the airport, and the drive to the centre takes around 40 to 50 minutes through the scenic Himalayan foothills, which is a pleasant enough introduction to the region.

train

The nearest major railway station is Haridwar Junction (HW) in Uttarakhand, well connected with Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow and several other cities.
From Haridwar, hire a taxi or take a shared cab towards Mohan Chatti by way of Rishikesh. The road journey usually takes 45 to 60 minutes.
Guests arriving at Rishikesh Railway Station can also continue comfortably by taxi, and the last part of the drive is a short one from there.

bus

Regular government and private buses connect Rishikesh Bus Stand with Delhi, Haridwar, Dehradun, Chandigarh and other nearby cities, with both ordinary and Volvo services running daily.
Once you reach Rishikesh, take a taxi, an auto rickshaw or a shared vehicle for the last stretch towards Mohan Chatti. The road is well kept and the views of the hills and forest along it are worth the window seat.

taxi

Prepaid taxis and private cabs are available at Jolly Grant Airport, Haridwar Junction Railway Station, Rishikesh Railway Station and the Rishikesh Bus Stand.
You can also book a local taxi service in advance if you would rather have someone waiting for you. The drive runs through mountain roads and riverside country before it reaches the centre.

car

The centre is easy enough to reach by road from the major cities of North India. Driving from Delhi takes roughly 5 to 6 hours by NH334.
From Haridwar or Dehradun it is a comfortable run through Rishikesh and on towards Mohan Chatti, with the hills opening up as you go. Parking is available nearby, so self drive works well here if you would rather have your own vehicle.

FAQ's

Expect roughly five to six hours a day across both. Two sessions go to philosophy, and the rest is Hatha Yoga, meditation, pranayama and Shat Karma, so the week never becomes purely academic.

No background is listed as a requirement. The classes introduce the texts rather than assume you know them, and terms are explained as they come up in the sessions.

Peaceful Accommodation, three vegetarian yogic meals a day, Wi-Fi, tea and coffee, cleansing process materials, reading books and a participation certificate are included. Airport transfers are not included, so ask the centre about them.

Starting dates are customised, so you can begin on any day of the week subject to availability. Because the retreat runs on a rolling schedule, confirm your dates with the centre before booking flights.

That depends on you, and nobody can promise it. What the retreat gives you is the context most practitioners never get, plus daily practice to test the ideas against while they are still fresh.

Yes, with most yoga courses and retreat programmes, unless it is stated otherwise.

Yes. Vegetarian meals are served daily, with vegan and gluten free options on request.

Yes. Complimentary Wi-Fi runs throughout the accommodation.

Yes. Local markets are within walking distance, and there are ATMs in the Rishikesh area when you need cash.

The local currency is the Indian Rupee (INR). Digital payments are widely accepted, though some cash helps for local shopping and transport.

Further Details About the Retreat

Days at the centre follow a set routine of practice, meals and quiet time, with a rooftop, gardens, a dining area and common spaces to sit in between sessions. Please share your medical history and any medicines you take before arrival, and tell the kitchen ahead of time about vegan, gluten free or allergy needs.
Wi-Fi runs throughout the building, and a local market for everyday essentials is about 300 to 400 metres away. Dress modestly when visiting temples, pack warm layers for cool winter mornings, and carry a universal travel adapter, as sockets in India take Type C, D and M plugs.
