Experience the Retreat

The day starts at 7:30 am with karma yoga and self practice, pranayama at 7:45 and a Hatha asana class at 8:30 am pitched gently for guests, with alignment corrected as you go rather than called out to the whole practice room across the retreat.

Breakfast at 10:00 am is communal and plant based. Optional theory covers philosophy, mantras and Ayurveda basics through the middle of the day. Aerial yoga takes the 4:00 pm slot on silk hammocks. Evenings rotate through hidden lake meditation, a cave excursion, sunset hikes, kirtan and beach meditation, with a stronger focus on meditation than the other retreats offer.

Sundays are lighter for rest, and guests leave with a real daily meditation habit.

Why This Retreat Stands Out

This is the quieter of the retreats, weighted toward meditation and pranayama rather than intense physical practice on the mat. Chanting, mantra work and evening beach meditation carry the week, and guests mostly say they leave with better sleep and a steadier mind.

Food Details

Three freshly cooked vegetarian meals are served each day, plant based and aligned with Ayurvedic principles. The cooking is designed to satisfy without weighing anyone down, which matters on a schedule that starts with practice before breakfast.

Meals are eaten together, and that shared table does as much for the group as the classes do. The kitchen is strictly vegetarian as a matter of school policy, and dietary requirements should be raised at the time of booking so the kitchen can plan for them.

India Yoga School

A tropical campus in Goa, five minutes on foot from the beach, with air-conditioned accommodation, a swimming pool, several yoga practice spaces including a rigged aerial studio, meditation areas, and a dining hall. Rooms run from a female dormitory through two-sharing to private.
The site at India Yoga School is shared with a resort and a cafe, though students follow the school rules rather than the resort ones. The kitchen is strictly vegetarian; alcohol and smoking are not permitted, and the campus is kept quiet out of respect for the practice.

The school sits in Goa, a five-minute walk from the beach, in tropical surroundings that stay quiet even in season. A swimming pool, practice spaces, and open green make up the campus, and the sound of the sea carries as far as the yoga hall.

The excursions go where most visitors never look. A hidden lake for meditation, a cave to sit in, a sunset point reached on foot, local temples, and a village dinner in a local villager's home rather than a restaurant. Dolphin watching and backwater kayaking are there for anyone who wants more.

Travel Information

flight

Goa has two airports, Manohar International Airport at Mopa in the north and Goa International Airport at Dabolim in the south, both with domestic flights from every major Indian city and a growing international schedule.

A one way airport transfer is included in the course fee, so flight details should be sent to the school ahead of arrival. The return journey is arranged by the guest, and the school can advise on the best option for the departure time.

train

Madgaon Junction is the main railhead in the south and Thivim the usual choice for the north, both on the Konkan Railway with direct services from Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Delhi and Kerala. Overnight trains from Mumbai arrive in the morning.

From either station a taxi covers the last stretch to the campus. Booking that car ahead is worth doing, since taxi availability at Goan stations thins out late in the evening.

bus

Long distance buses run to Goa from Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, with sleeper and air conditioned services on most routes. Journeys from Mumbai and Bengaluru usually run overnight.

Buses drop at Mapusa, Panaji or Margao depending on the operator, and a local taxi covers the rest of the way. Guests arriving by bus should send their arrival point to the school so directions can be sent through.

taxi

Taxis are easy to find across Goa, from airport counters, local operators and app based services in the main towns. The included airport transfer covers the arrival, so a taxi is mostly needed for departures and day trips.

Give the driver the campus address supplied by the school at booking, since the lanes near the beach are narrow and not always well signposted. Agreeing the fare before setting off avoids any confusion at the end.

car

Goa is reached from Mumbai in about ten to twelve hours and from Bengaluru in around twelve, on national highways that are in good condition for most of the route. Pune to Goa runs closer to nine hours.

Within Goa, scooters and cars are widely available to hire, which makes exploring the beaches and villages straightforward on the rest days. Parking is available at the campus and should be confirmed when booking.

FAQ's

No. The retreat starts from basics and no prior meditation experience is required. Age tends to help rather than hinder, since the ability to sit still comes more easily with a bit of life behind you.

Yes. Asana sessions are pitched gently and alignment is corrected as you go. Tell the teacher about any injury or condition before the first class, so the sequences can be adjusted for you rather than around you.

An air conditioned room with pool access, three fresh vegetarian meals a day, an Ayurvedic massage, all sessions, evening excursions and a one way airport transfer. A yoga mat, school bag, t shirt and jal neti pot are given on arrival.

No. Silence is encouraged during meditation but not enforced across the week. Meals are communal, evenings are spent together, and the group tends to bond quickly over shared practice.

No. Course details list Yoga Alliance certification as not eligible for retreats. The teacher trainings run separately if a credential is what you want.

Air conditioned accommodation with pool access, a one way airport transfer, three vegetarian meals a day, all classes and excursions, a complimentary Ayurvedic massage, a yoga mat and props, a school bag and t-shirt, and a Jal Neti pot.

Visa fees, travel other than the one way airport transfer, extra nights, Yoga Alliance registration, laundry, meals outside the scheduled times, personal shopping and payment transaction charges.

An air conditioned female dormitory, an air conditioned room shared between two, or an air conditioned private room. All three have the same access to the swimming pool, the practice spaces and the campus.

The kitchen and the campus are strictly vegetarian, and alcohol and smoking are not permitted. The site is shared with a resort and a cafe where other options exist, but students follow the school rules throughout their stay.

Arrivals are on Mondays, with Tuesday check-in also available, and the programme runs in a three week cycle that then repeats. Saturdays are half days and Sundays are set aside for rest.

Further Details About the Retreat

Arrivals are on Mondays and the programme runs to a weekly rhythm, so mid week joining is only possible by prior approval. The daily schedule can shift with weather and conditions, and each day is confirmed through a group chat the evening before.

Two house rules matter more than the rest at India Yoga School. The kitchen is strictly vegetarian, and alcohol and smoking are not permitted anywhere on the campus, even though a resort and a cafe share the same site. Deposits are non refundable but can be transferred to another date for the same guest.
