Summary
This retreat is a personalised fitness and wellness retreat high in the hills of Kodaikanal, India — run entirely, with no sub-trainers and no revolving staff, by the two founders whose home it is.

The retreat runs on a genuine 1:2 model — two trainers to one guest — so every guest is trained and monitored by both founders directly, not handed off to a junior instructor once the brochure photo is taken.

The Founder and Head Trainer brings 25+ years of experience in strength training, functional fitness, mobility and lifestyle coaching. The Wellness and Movement Trainer brings 15 years of yoga, breathwork and mindful-movement experience, including 200-hour Sivananda and Yin Yoga certifications. Between them, that's 40 years of hands-on coaching focused on one guest at a time.

Each retreat integrates structured workouts, restorative practice, personalised nutrition and mindful recovery — built around where a guest is actually starting from, not a generic timetable everyone follows regardless of fitness level.

Experience the Retreat
This is a premium fitness and wellness retreat high in the Palani Hills of Tamil Nadu, designed for individuals seeking personalised training, nutrition, recovery and lifestyle transformation, delivered directly by its founders, with no sub-trainers on staff.

Unlike conventional group fitness holidays, the retreat runs on an exceptional 1 trainer to 2 clients ratio. Every program is tailored around your fitness level, goals, lifestyle and progress, so you get focused coaching and individual attention throughout your stay, never a generic group schedule.

Choose from 1-week, 2-week, 3-week, and 4-week fitness retreat programs, combining personal training, functional fitness, strength development, mobility, nutrition guidance, recovery, and wellness practices.

Nutrition plays an important role in the transformation journey, with an approximate macro philosophy of 40% carbohydrates, 40% protein and 20% fat, adapted to individual requirements and goals.

The retreat offers a comfortable, premium environment with private rooms, en-suite bathrooms, balconies, Wi-Fi, a heated yoga room and heated infrared beds, all within the home the founders have personally run for over 15 years, high above sea level in the Palani Hills.

Progress is evaluated beyond the weighing scale. Depending on individual requirements, the retreat tracks strength, agility, speed, resting heart rate and other performance indicators, with technology such as CGM and MyZone used for deeper insight, monitored directly by the founders, not delegated to a lab technician you'll never meet again.

Why This Retreat Stands Out
Most fitness retreats hand you a timetable and a trainer on rotation. But here, the first thing that happens when you arrive isn't a fitness test or a form to fill out, it's a conversation. Both founders sit with you in person and work out where you're actually stuck: a knee that's held you back, a relationship with food, or the first ten minutes on a treadmill you've never managed to finish.

From there, everything is built around that starting point. You could be taking your first-ever walk or training to climb Kilimanjaro, the retreat calibrates to you, not the other way round. That's the point of the model: a genuine two-trainer-to-one-guest ratio, with the two founders as your only trainers for the entire stay. No sub-trainers, no hand-off partway through.

They build your timetable and then they're there to run it with you, fitting heart rate monitors, standing beside you through sessions, and adjusting the plan daily based on how your body is actually responding, not how a spreadsheet predicted it would.
Altitude isn't just scenery here, it's part of the program. Thinner air means your heart and lungs work harder for the same output, which over one to four weeks measurably improves VO2 max and oxygen-carrying efficiency. A moderate cardio session up in these hills does more than the identical session at sea level.

And for a retreat this close to nature, we're unusually driven by data. Every session is run with a heart rate monitor on; guests managing diabetes are supported with CGM tracking; and strength progress — sets, reps, load, week over week, is logged through apps, not guessed at. Being close to the forest doesn't mean training on guesswork.

Alongside the numbers sits stillness. Anapana breath meditation and Yin Yoga build the calm and discipline that make the training sustainable, not an add-on, but the other half of the method.

Combined with mindful nutrition and this mountain setting, the retreat creates conditions where change happens physically and mentally, not through doing more, but through doing what's right, consistently, with someone physically present to guide it. You're never just handed a routine and left to follow it. You're listened to, guided, and walked with, every day.

Host & Team

Organizer

In 2011, both Prahladh and Khushi started this retreat high in the southern hills of India. This is their dream venture, where they intend to bridge the gap by not only offering training programs but also helping students develop a fit lifestyle they can sustain long after they leave.

To achieve this, their first aim was to create a clean, secluded environment away from distractions like restaurants, alcohol and demotivating people. So the retreat was born in Kodaikanal, a home in the hills; not a hotel, not a resort chain, a home we still live in and run ourselves, with no sub-trainers, over 15 years later.

1ON1 Fitness Center offers a genuine 1 trainer-to-2-clients coaching model, providing individual attention throughout the fitness journey. Each guest follows a structured program based on their personal goals, fitness level, lifestyle and progress. Programs are available for 1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks.

Location Information

KODAIKANAL

TAMIL NADU

INDIA

The center is located high in the Palani Hills of the Western Ghats, Tamil Nadu, at 2,133 metres above sea level. The property is surrounded by pine and shola forest, with clean, cool mountain air.

Kodaikanal's Air Quality Index typically falls in the “Good” range on the US AQI scale — often under 50 — while many major Indian cities run several times higher. In practice, that means guests sleep better, recover faster between sessions, and train with a resting heart rate that isn't also fighting heat, humidity and pollution.

The climate matches the altitude: daytime temperatures generally sit in the low-to-mid 20s°C, dropping into the mid-teens or cooler after dark. It's genuine mountain weather, well suited to outdoor training and walking.

This isn't a resort. There's no lobby, no check-in desk, and no rotating roster of staff. It's a home — the one the founders have lived in and personally run for over 15 years — and every guest who stays is a guest in that home, not a room number.

Despite the altitude and seclusion, the retreat remains easily accessible: Madurai Airport is roughly 120 km away, about a 2.5-3-hour drive, keeping the journey manageable for both domestic and international guests.

Travel Information

flight

The nearest airports to Kodaikanal are Madurai International Airport (120 km), Coimbatore International Airport (170 km), and Tiruchirappalli International Airport (195 km). Madurai is the most convenient option, with approximately a 2.5-3 hour taxi journey to Kodaikanal. Coimbatore takes around 4 hours by road. International guests can connect through major Indian cities such as Bangalore, Chennai or Mumbai before travelling to Madurai or Coimbatore.

train

Kodai Road Railway Station is the closest rail head at roughly 80 km, though it carries limited services. Madurai Junction is the more practical option, well connected with Chennai, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Mumbai and Delhi, with both day and overnight trains.

From Madurai Junction a taxi covers the remaining three and a half hours up to Kodaikanal. Booking the onward car before you travel is worth doing, since the climb is long and taxis at the station are not always available late in the evening.

bus

State and private buses run to Kodaikanal from Madurai, Palani, Dindigul, Batlagundu and Coimbatore, and the Madurai route is the most frequent. The climb is scenic and the journey from Madurai takes around four hours depending on the traffic on the ghat section.

From the Kodaikanal bus stand, a local taxi covers the 5 km out to the house. Guests carrying luggage or arriving after dark will find a direct taxi from Madurai a good deal easier than the bus and taxi combination.

taxi

A pre-booked taxi is the simplest way in, and the only sensible option for a late arrival. From Madurai Airport or Madurai Junction the drive takes about three and a half hours, and from Coimbatore around four and a half.

App based cabs do not operate reliably on the hill routes, so book through a local operator or ask the retreat to recommend one. Give the driver the address at A3, Mil Heaven, Hill Top Road, Kodaikanal 624103.

car

From Madurai, head north west through Batlagundu and take the ghat road up through Perumal Malai into Kodaikanal, a drive of about three and a half hours. From Coimbatore the route runs through Palani and up the northern ghat road, taking roughly four and a half hours.

Both approaches finish on winding hill roads that are best driven in daylight and in dry conditions. Parking is available at the house, and the final turn into the gated community is easier to find with directions from the retreat than from a map alone.

FAQ'S

It is described as a kick start or refresher for people who have trained before and are coming back after a break. Because form, stance and breathing are already in place, the fortnight can go straight to work. Beginners are pointed towards the longer 28 night programme instead.

Over a 14 days programme the retreat targets a minimum of 5 percent and a maximum of 8 percent loss of body weight. Progress can be slower for guests with PCOD, chronic constipation or thyroid concerns, and full body measurements are taken on arrival and departure so the change is measured rather than guessed.

Yes. A POLAR or MY ZONE monitor is mandatory for cardio, strength and HIIT sessions, since it is how the trainers tailor intensity safely. Fitbits, Apple Watches and Garmins are not accepted, as the readings are not reliable enough to train from.

The house takes no more than four students at any time. Strength sessions run with a maximum of two students at matched fitness levels, while cardio and yoga groups are three or four. Students typically book two months ahead because of it.

Sunday is a full rest day with no training. Thursdays and Sundays also carry an eighteen hour intermittent fast, so the body gets a genuine break twice a week rather than being pushed through fourteen straight days.

Two villas hold six private en-suite bedrooms with hot water, wardrobes, warm linens, Wi-Fi and streaming television, alongside two living areas, two gyms and a heated yoga deck. Rooms are cleaned daily except Sundays, with linen changed weekly.

Five meals a day of vegetarian food with eggs, calorie counted and cooked from organic local vegetables, plus one non vegetarian meal out each week. Raw food, lactose free, gluten free and ketogenic plans can all be arranged, the last for an additional fee.

Yes. Companions can stay in the house, take the same healthy meals for a daily charge and join yoga or training sessions for a per session fee. They are asked to follow the meal plan while they are on the premises.

Yes. The retreat is a private house in a gated residential community with the trainers living on site, and the group never exceeds four students. Solo travellers take a private room rather than sharing.

Two pairs of shoes for indoor and outdoor training, warm gym wear with full track pants and long sleeves, a hoodie, beanie, gloves and a buff for the cold morning runs, two one litre water bottles, a training belt if you have back issues, and medical tests less than three months old.
